FROM THE EAST

I just want to take this opportunity to say thank you for the Lodge giving me the privilege of serving as your Master.  One month is already past us and almost another one is behind us.  It seems like the older that I get, the faster the months go by.
We are getting ready for our spring BBQ and I am looking forward to it.  Finally I don't have a specific function, but I will be there to do what ever needs to be done.  I sure hope that every body sells as many presales as possible.  This is the thing that really makes our BBQ's a success. I know that Brother George Gillenwater and Brother T C Mullen will take care of everything.  We are in good hands.
We had the Rainbow Girls to serve us at our last meal and I heard nothing but compliments.  The Rainbow Girls also had their Installation of Officers at our Lodge and that was a great Ceremony.
If anyone has any suggestions of things that they would like to do this year, please call me, I will listen.
A big thank you for all the support that you are giving me this year.

Rudy Bartholomew
Worshipful Master Millbrook Lodge #97

FROM THE SOUTH
Well brethern, where does the time go.  Seems like only last week that I was sitting in a Stewards chair. Speaking of time going by...well it is time for our annual spring BBQ and with your help, input and work we'll have yet another successful one.  Brother George and I ask each of you to do what you can to assist our lodge in making it so.  If you can give of your talents and time, if only an hour, it will be appreciated and go a long way in making it both a fun and easy day or all.
From the building and grounds chair...spring is almost upon us and with it are a couple of things that need to be done with our place.  I would like to set up a work day one weekend in April and solicit inputs from any who will be willing to help out.  The front columns need a coat of primer and paint, as do the window frames. We need to put up a small section of gutters out back and the wooded area is in dire need of a good policing of trash blown or tossed out there. None of the work is hard nor takes a lot of talent.  I'll be on hand to work, supervise and assist the team in making our lodge the show place it deserves to be.  Please contact me at TCMullen@cs.com or give me a call...601-6546.
OK, out for now.  I look forward to seeing you at our next stated communication and the BBQ on the 27th of March.

FROM THE SECRETARY’S DESK

WOW, 2008 flew by fast, it is hard to believe that we are already in the third month of 2009.  My father always told me the older you get, the faster the time goes by, and he was right.
Millbrook Lodge had a very good year last year under the leadership of WB Rick Matlack, our Worshipful Master.  We had new carpet installed in the foyer, new tile in the upstairs restrooms, new toilets in all four restrooms and a chairlift installed to help our older brothers and sisters to go from the dining area to the lodge room and vice versa.  We would like to offer a big Thank You to the Eastern Star Chapter for contributing monies to help pay for the improvements.
Our new Master for 2009, WB Rudy Bartholomew, has put together a great slate of officers and committee chairmen, and with us all working together, 2009 should be a great year also.
There are very few statistics to report at the present time, our membership is staying constant, we have one entered apprentice, Bro. Gray Speight, who is progressing well on the first-degree catechism, and we had three brothers affiliate with us this year, Bro. Ed Engebretson, Bro. Tim Martin, and Bro. Jack McGee.  Please greet them and make them welcome at our future meetings.
I would like to take this opportunity to remind all the brothers in the lodge that we need your help, especially our retired and semi-retired brethren.  We have a beautiful lodge building that is fast approaching the 30-year-old mark.  It sits on 4 acres of prime property in a very fast growing area of our city and county, and we need to look after it, after all it is every members lodge.
The reason I mention this is that Bro. TC Mullen, chairman of the property and grounds committee, needs all of our help in maintaining and cleaning the building and especially a lot of help with our lawn, which is really a large patch of weeds.  Some weed killer, fertilizer, bushes, and flowers would do a lot to improve our lodge and make it a show place in the Raleigh Area.
After a lot of investigation, I think I have found out the problem of not getting much help at the lodge.  I am sure that most of you don't know it, but we have 4 brothers in the lodge with the same last name and guess what their last names are ONE.
There have been times in the past that we had a big job to do and everyone was responsible for doing it.  But EveryONE figured that since SomeONE was bound to do it (SomeONE always did), EveryONE didn't have to.  Of course, AnyONE could have done the job, but as it turned out, NoONE did.
This made SomeONE quite angry because it had been made clear that is was EveryONE'S responsibility, not just AnyONE'S.  Yet NoONE had envisioned that EveryONE would skip out on the assignment.
When an explanation was asked for, EveryONE pointed a finger at SomeONE only to be told that No ONE had managed to do what AnyONE could have done.
I sure hope this explains the situation and look forward to seeing EveryONE at our future meetings.

Fraternally,
Nelson Henthorne, PM, secretary.
